I Still believe that the SB Mayor Morris is serious about the clean up of San Bernardino. He is Spending money that they ultimately don't have to clean up a problem to make San Bernardino Safe not, but now it is up to the neighboring cities to work with San Bernardino and keep the Crime from moving into their area's, in fact what would be the ultimate Idea is to push the crime causing people into L.A. County, Orange County Etc etc... That is the better idea. Other wise you are pushing the crime element into the neighboring city Which forces them to work extra hard to push them back into your area. Nothing gets solved.
Morris needs to get Wilson to work with the city's surrounding San Berdo as well.
If you read the Attached News Article you will see that Kurt Wilson is the right man for the job of working on the Phoenix Project. I think that Wilson will not let the people of San Bernardino, or the Mayor of San Bernardino down!!

Wilson Named Director of Outreach : Mayor Pat Morris Moves Onto Phase II Operation Phoenix |

SAN BERNARDINO By Cheryl Brown San Bernardino Mayor Pat Morris' Operation Phoenix Plan moved into phase II this past week with the naming of new initiatives and appointing a person to head up the effort. The plan has also been expanded to include other areas of need in the city.
In a one week period four people were murdered in San Bernardino: eleven-year-old Anthony Ramirez, seventeen-year-old Traveil Williams, Hyven Howard, 29 and Charmaine Sweat, 28 all unrelated incidents involving gang violence according to the San Bernardino Police. This brings 36 homicides to the city. Last year the count for the year was 56. School boardmember Marlin Brown and Deputy Superintendent Judy White joined Morris in a press conference to announce that the school district will keep schools in the summer opened longer. Morris also announced that the city's pools will be open for free admission and in a coordinated effort, the city's summer youth program will be combined. Joining Morris and the school district in support were Supervisor Josie Gonzales, the Highway Patrol, the San Bernardino Sheriff's Department, religious and business leaders, and council members. There will also be a job program that will hire 80 at-risk youths to clean graffiti and make the city beautiful. Under Employment and Training there will be 11 programs. Victory Outreach has an effective program to help former gang members and to keep the youth from gangs that Morris said he would use. "We give positive role models for them. They have an opportunity to travel all over the world to do missionary work. They begin to get a vision for life," said Abraham Avila, director. As soon as the city meets the capacity to train and hire more police officers, the Beat Plan, will be instituted. " Officers will be in the neighborhood, walking and talking 7 days a week with the residents of the community," said Morris. He has also beefed up the nighttime patrols by adding aviation, the eye on the community will be "Omnipresent" he said. And he announced a helicopter has been purchased with drug forfeiture money. The helicopter will be outfitted with Thermal Imaging and night lights, "It will be like a shinning star in the sky," said Morris. The question on Supervisor Gonzales' mind is, "What more can I do?" She said crime is mobile and it has no limits. She is happy to lend the hand of the Sheriff's Department. There will be six deputies and 1 sergeant assigned to the department. "I am not afraid to be aggressive," she said. San Bernardino Police Chief Bilk, said he has a short term and long term strategy, "we have redeployed 25 officers to 4 p.m. to 3 a.m. when violent crime is the most prevalent. And working with the 6 officers from each agency we will use the suppression model. I am confident that Operation Phoenix will be successful," he said. Marlin Brown, President of the San Bernardino Unified School District, announced, "We are opening 4 middle schools: Del Vallejo, Curtis, Arrow View and Martin Luther King, Jr with a fully staffed supper program that will stay open until 8 o'clock at night." He continued, "The mayor collaborating with the Board of Education has never been done before," said Brown. Wilson told The Black Voice News that the Mayor and the city are serious about taking corrective action. "I like the energy of the community, it shows this problem can be solved through collaborative work of all stakeholders," he said. The program only has enough funding for the next three months, said Morris. "Something will have to be done. The federal government is backing away from programs to help cities, but we will be targeting other resources. Crime prevention must include a dramatic increase of how we take care of our community. We have to have a new source of revenue," said Morris. |
