Riverside County Judge Makes Move to Appellate Court (Press Enterprise 06102006)

Finally some movement in the justice system!! The only problem is, that the movement occurred in Riverside County and not San Bernardino County!! San Bernardino County needs a great deal of Justice Seats filled. They were asking retired Judges to come back and sit on the bench for a short period of time, for extra money and to hear cases. The problem with this is the men that they were occupying to do this job had retired some time earlier and needed to get on with their retirement, and not hear any more cases for the County!!

Riverside County Superior Court Judge Douglas P. Miller was unanimously confirmed Friday as an associate justice for the 4th District Court of Appeal, Division 2, based in Riverside.

Miller's confirmation was announced by California Supreme Court Justice Ronald M. George, chairman of the state Commission on Judicial Appointments.

The commission, meeting in Los Angeles, also confirmed the appointments for new appellate court associate justices who will take the bench in Fresno and Los Angeles.

Miller, 53, was nominated by Gov. Schwarzenegger in April to replace retired Associate Justice James D. Ward. Miller is a former presiding judge for Riverside County.

He was most recently assigned to the Larson Justice Center in Indio.

The 4th District Division 2 court handles appeals from Riverside, San Bernardino and Inyo counties. With Miller's confirmation, the court will have seven justices, including Presiding Justice Manuel A. Ramirez.

The court decides about 1,100 appeals and petitions annually.
