Police Shoot Armed Man During Chase (061106 Press Enterprise) COLTON: Authorities say the man was involved in robberies and a killing in Rialto

From the information that I received of this shooting it is a good shoot. The man was Armed and they were watching him for a Crime that he had committed. He obviously knew that he was a wanted man, carrying a gun and then attempting to flee from the Police when time came to give up. He didn't give up when the Police Mate Team tried to apprehend him he pulled the gun from his waist band, and that was when the shooting began.

There is just one unwritten rule that I will pass on to you right now. When you have a gun and you are cornered by the Police Department, never. I mean never attempt to give the Police Officer The benefit of the doubt of weather or not your acting in good faith by giving up or not. See a Police man cannot read minds. Out of the many good things we can do mind reading is not one of them. Well, Never handle the weapon, just raise your hands and stand there looking stupid and say I have a gun I would like for you to extract from my pants or underwear, or wear ever it is hidden. Okay....That is the best advice I can give you..It might save you live some day!!

An armed man authorities say they believe had connections to two robberies and a homicide in Rialto was shot by at least one Rialto police officer in Colton on Thursday.

The unidentified man was transported to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center and appeared to be in grave condition, said Capt. Tony Farrar, Rialto's SWAT/operations bureau commander.

The Rialto Multiple Enforcement Unit, which focuses on gang activity and homicides, was watching the man at the Rodeway Inn hotel on Valley Boulevard, Farrar said.

After the suspect got into a silver car with an unidentified male, female and child, officers attempted to pull the suspect over, Farrar said.

When the vehicle stopped, the driver bolted out of the car and ran north on Wildrose Avenue, he said.

Two officers chased the man on foot about 50 or 60 yards as a second police vehicle drove up to where they were running, Farrar said.

"At that point, the suspect pulled out a handgun, turned toward the officers and pointed his weapon at them," Farrar said. "We still don't know if the suspect fired on officers or not and we are still trying to find out how many shots officers fired."

An officer in the passenger seat of the second police vehicle shot at the suspect through the front windshield, Farrar said.

After the suspect was shot, officers began performing CPR, he said.

The Rialto Police Department will conduct an internal investigation into the shooting and contact the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department to conduct a separate investigation, Farrar said.

Fredda Davenport, who witnessed the shooting from her truck, said a police car tried to pull the suspect over after he turned onto Wildrose Avenue from Valley Boulevard.

"All of a sudden a lot of cop cars came from everywhere and one of the guys inside of the gray car got out of the car and started running," Davenport said.

"The police got out of their car and were chasing him on foot yelling 'stop, stop, police officer, stop.' "

The suspect ignored officer's commands and continued running, she said.

"Then, all of a sudden, I saw the police draw their guns ... and I heard 10 to 15 shots," Davenport said.
