Daily Bulletin May 31, 2006....Proposition 82 good for children, their communities?

Praise the good lord this proposition did not pass. Why doesn't Rob Ryner stick to what he knows and that is not Politics. He needs to put his money into making movies. There has not been any good movie out really, all that the movie business is relying on now is the Independent Film area to keep putting out the creative movies that seem to be the ones that are making money. It is all because they are the ones that the Mighty Movie Makers see the script and think that it is going to be a dud!! But it takes the Writer or a Director, one who truly believes in the movie to go to one of the Independent outlets to get the movie made. Then when they have a hit the Major Movie moguls purchase the movie from the Independent Film world and add their big lion or their huge 20th century. But they still have to have the In Cooperation with and then you have the Independent film name.

Well, I say that the Great Big Movie Companies like Paramount or Time Warner (Same thing), Fox, should Really not make all these stupid re-makes of movies that played thirty years ago. Is it to the point that they don't have anyone selling, showing or coming to them with any scripts that they can look at to make a movie. I know that when Clint Eastwood wants to make a movie they give him a check book full of signed checks to get the movie made. He usually has a script in mind, but he is a well established director.

The directors' that are not established are the ones that are still in Film School or Collage, and can make a beautiful Movie, however the large companies don't give them a chance because they must prove themselves first it seems. So you have a whole bunch of Independent movies that are going to the movies and are making the killing at the box office. Ones that end up having to be purchased and distributed by the large companies such as Fox, Universal, & Disney.

These large companies need to get it together no more re-makes of 40 year old movies because they don't or cannot get their hands on a good Screen play. To make a good movie with. Sad, but that is the truth of it. They either don't want to pay unless they know ahead of time it is going to rain money for them. Take Broken Cowboy, or Sheepherder Express. One of the Actors on there did it pro bono, because they said it was an independent film and they didn't think it would make any money. Well Randy Quaid Waved his $20 million dollar fee that he charges to make or Star in a movie. Once he did it then the movie made it to release and the confused public loved it. They could never figure out that with all those sheep there that they were first off not Cowboys, but Sheep Herders, and with all the sheep there what are they doing chasing each other??. Sick sick . Well the other would be sick too. " I- I don't know how to quit you!" BAAAA...!

I know Baaad Joke...

Take care and think about it the movie industry is a mess, don't let them think you otherwise.

Proposition 82 good for children, their communities

Universal preschool offers children a good head start on life and learning, which makes it good for both kids and their communities.

Kids who have a firm foundation in education are much less likely to get into trouble.

Proposition 82, which would provide every 4-year-old in California the opportunity to attend half-day preschool for free, is the type of program needed to help fix our crime-torn communities.

Preschool has been shown to help kids learn to read sooner, a prerequisite for a good education. Preschool puts children on a path to literacy, improving their reading-readiness skills. In fact, kids who have attended preschool are more likely to read by the third grade, a critical milestone.

The resulting increase in high school graduation and college- going rates leads to a corresponding reduction in juvenile crime and problems later in life.

Kids who attend preschool have a much greater chance of staying in school - and out of gangs. And they are much less likely to turn to drugs and crime.

Under Proposition 82, a 1.7 percent tax on incomes over $400,000, or $800,000 for couples, would fund a $2.4 billion program to offer quality preschool to every 4-year-old in California on a voluntary basis.

Every child deserves that chance. And so does every family. The benefits are far-reaching. According to a Rand Corp. study released last week Fight Crime: Invest in Kids California, juvenile crime in San Bernardino County would decline by 16 percent, if all 4-year- olds were enrolled in preschool. That means 1,984 fewer juvenile charges. In a similar vein, there would be 673 fewer high school dropouts.

Those who support the measure include San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools Herbert R. Fischer and the San Bernardino County Police Chiefs and Sheriff Association.

Preschool improves not only children's ability to learn, but also enhances their social skills. Kids who don't have the advantage of attending preschool tend to have more behavioral problems, and they may enter kindergarten behind the curve on basic knowledge and techniques.

California teachers say only one in five children is enrolled in a quality preschool. Though about two-thirds of 4-year-olds attend some kind of preschool program, many are in day-care and ba-sitting arrangements rather than a solid, center-based program. Whereas there is currently no academic requirement for preschool teachers, Proposition 82 would require that July 2014, all teachers in the state preschool program have a four-year college degree. And by July 2016, they would have to have an early learning teaching credential. Proposition 82, effective for all children born on or after June 6, 2006, also would set new preschool standards based on the academic content taught in kindergarten through third grade.

Preschool is an important building block for children.

Vote yes on Proposition 82.
