Fire Danger level raised on the San Bernardino National Forest (Big Bear Grizzly 070506)

The fact that the Forest Service Staff was not reduced by half was finally a good insight by the personnel that runs the Forest Service, since they were going to cut the Staffing that they currently had by half only two months ago. If they had, and then they were to have run into the situation that we seem to be running into now. Why we meaning all of us might be up a sewer creek with out a boat let alone a paddle. So, I was happy that they didn't cut the forest service in half, or at least I am praying to God Almighty that they didn't because they would have to put those that were Pink slipped back on the payroll somehow fast!!

Fire Danger level raised on the San Bernardino National Forest

The San Bernardino National Forest raised the fire danger level from moderate to high. The level is determined by a variety of factors including the moisture in vegetation, weather conditions and firefighting equipment needs due to national fire activity.

Forest visitors are advised that there are no new campfire restrictions. Open wood and charcoal fires will still be permitted in developed campgrounds and picnic areas only. Gas and propane powered stoves and grills are permitted in undeveloped areas with a California campfire permit. These permits are available at any Forest Service ranger station.

Visitors are reminded that personal fireworks are never permitted on the national forest. The penalty for those in possession or discharge of fireworks on federal lands can range up to $5,000 and/or six months in jail. If a wildfire results from an individual's use of fireworks, that person can be found liable for the cost of suppressing the fire.

The 1N09 shooting area is closed to target shooting effective Friday, June 30, for the duration of the fire season. Lightening Gulch and Big Pine Flats shooting areas on the Mountain Top Ranger District are open, as are the private ranges in Big Bear and Lytle Creek.

For more information on location conditions in the Big Bear area, call the Big Bear Ranger Station at 909-382-2790.
