Car Show, Revs Up in San Bernardino (SB SUN 07212006)

The Route 66 Rendezvous is getting ready to go to another full swing. It seems that the Run Whatcha Brung in Rialto cannot even hold a candle to the Route 66 Rendezvous, because they are even pulling in top names for the Live concerts. We are talking Live concerts in Triple degree heat!! Now this does not work in Rialto the closest that Rialto has come to the live concert has been 99.9 FM oldies Station playing Music live there at the Run Whatcha Brung, but that only went for one year, then they did Cameo's with a D.J. on Location at the Run Whatcha Brung, and the last two or three years they have had a Truck down there that has had their radio station tuned into their station playing music life from the station. Rialto went from having over 500 cars to barely braking 120 cars last year, or at least it looked like in the highlight of the event that they had a whole maybe sixty cars. I am sorry I don't know what happened.
I was a Police Officer for the First year in 1995, and it was great, we were overwhelmed with all the cars and people that showed up there. Also we were stunned with the lack of problems that we had at the whole event. In fact I think that we had one Drunk in Public Arrest and that was all, everyone else was very cooperative and the event was super crazy but in control. It was nice. Like a real old fashioned event that you want to have. I was stunned as was everyone else on the Police department.
The Second year was bigger, we were riding our Motorcycles and having a great time. I had never had such a good time as the Run Whatcha Brung for the second year, it was twice as busy as the first year and wow that open header Cruising was great. then we had the drag racing at the Airport, what fun that was. There was such beautiful cars and I was surprised that there were so many that were being raced, that were such classics and on the racing strip, I guess that was what they were fixed up for.
Now the last year I went down and noticed that there was about fifty or sixty cars. Maybe a hundred at the most. I was so embarrassed that it had dropped off to what it was after ten years to that. It was just sad that they, meaning the City's People could not figure out a better way to get more and more people involved in the event. Like Real Stop Light Drags racing maybe. They could block off a certain quarter mile of say Riverside and have then race down that and then back across Randall up willow and back, might be a solution. Just a thought. but still there needs to be a way to reevaluate the event and make it better then what it was!! Better...Stronger...Faster...!! then it was before, so that it will grow each year!! maybe if they held it more to the south of Rialto say down at Valley and raced a quarter mile down valley, but that is still up or down hill, not fair. some thing to think about always something to think about.. In order to improve the event, because as I see it, it is and has been going back wards..
