Suspected Cat Burglar Leaves Wallet Behind (Daily Bulletin 050906) Rialto Police Department Requested For Mutual Aid...by SBSD RCPD

I have seen many Cat's. I have petted the heads of many Cat's However I have never known a cat to carry a Wallet. However as it was once said by an Oscar Winning Actor comedian once said, "I have got to get a pair of cat handcuff and I have got to get them right away, Not the pair of two but the maniacal of Four. I found out my Cat has been Stealing from me!! Found out while I was away, he would wait for the mail man to drop off my pay check and he would cash the check at the bank disguised as me.!!" (Steve Martin Somewhere in the late 70's)

Well, I hope with the "KEY" Evidence that they have found at the Scene, that they can catch this guy!!

Suspected cat burglar leaves wallet behind

By Melissa Pinion-Whitt, Staff Writer

RANCHO CUCAMONGA - The clue left behind by a suspected cat burglar early Monday was not one detectives see often.

San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies found the item shortly after they spotted the man's abandoned, loot-filled car near the scene of the crime, deputies said.

"The man left his wallet in the trunk of the car, and we're attempting to make contact with him," San Bernardino County sheriff's Sgt. Tony DeCecio said.

Deputies came to the 12700 block of Saddleridge Drive at 3:53 a.m. after receiving a report of a suspicious vehicle parked in the neighborhood and a man walking around.

They found a 1988 Honda parked on the street. A computer and other stolen electronics were inside the car, DeCecio said.

Deputies checked the neighborhood and found a home in the 7000 block of Harne Court with an open window and the screen removed.

The residents awoke, looked around their home and discovered it had been burglarized. The items in the Honda belonged to them, DeCecio said.

Deputies stayed in the area looking for the burglar.

Then, at 6:20 a.m., deputies received a second call from a resident in the 12700 block of George Court who saw a man jump a wall into a field north of his home. Deputies believe the man hid at the location and then ran when he thought deputies had left.

Rancho Cucamonga deputies requested help from the Rialto Police Department, which sent over a police dog and handler. Officers in a helicopter also helped in the search.

The man was never found.

Deputies suspect the man may have attempted to break into a second home nearby.

Investigators searched the man's vehicle and recovered all the stolen items, along with the man's wallet and cell phone.

Sheriff's Detective Jason Radeleff, who is investigating the crime, said he occasionally finds identification cards and other items at crime scenes that lead investigators straight to a suspect.

"When they're in a rush and trying to get out of there, they might leave those things behind," he said.

With the summer months approaching, deputies offer the following tips to residents for keeping their homes secure:

Use screw locks to prevent window access. Don't leave windows open at night, but if you must crack open a window, use the locks so windows can only be partially opened from the outside. Screw locks and poles placed along a sliding door runner also help deter burglars.

Install adequate lighting around the house so anyone suspicious can be seen.

Cut back bushes around entry points and windows. Burglars can use these to avoid being seen breaking into homes.

Be observant for your neighbors. Deputies advise that if you see vehicles or people who don't look like they belong in the neighborhood, contact local law enforcement.

Anyone with information on this case may call Radeleff at (909) 477-2800.
