Deputies seek man in gas station robbery

NEAR BARSTOW -- Deputies are seeking an unidentified man who robbed a gas station after an apparent failed attempt to rob another man late Friday evening.
According to a report by the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, a man was approached by another man driving a small light-colored car in the 47000 block of National Trails Highway at about 10:45 p.m. Friday.
The man asked the victim if he wanted to buy a camera, then pulled a gun on him, according to the report. The victim slapped the gun out of the would-be robber's hands, according to the report.
The robber then fled the scene westbound on Interstate 40. He had two other passengers in his car, according to the report.
Not long after the incident, a man matching the same description robbed the Calico Petroleum gas station brandishing what appeared to be a pistol. He took about $300 in cash from the register and a neck chain from the clerk, then fled. According to the report, the robber ran to a lightcolored car and drove away in an unknown direction.
Deputies describe the robber as a Hispanic man in his 20s, 5 feet 8 inches tall, 170 pounds, with short black hair.
