Rialto, Police Union Ratify 2-Year Contract (Daily Bulletin June 6, 2006) RPBA Ratify 2-yr. labor contract on Monday.

This was the biggest mistake that BOTH The Rialto City Council & Rialto Police Benefit Assoc. did. The City Council Argued against the Fact that they could not afford a Retirement Plan that the City Desperately needs. The Retirement plan of coarse is the 3% @50 years of age Retirement. See what this does is that when the Employee Reaches 50 years old, he can retire with a Benefit of 3% of his overall Income over the time that he/she has been employed with the City of Rialto. Rialto City Council, via the City Administrator, claim that they cannot afford such a Retirement plan. Currently the city of Rialto gets a Retirement Plan of 2% @50. San Bernardino gets the next worse with 3% @55 Years of Age, and the rest of the City's and San Bernardino County gets 3% @50.

Let me think, the City of Rialto just went though this whole thing where the City Council got a (for the benefit of keeping this a "G" Rating) Rock in their shoe and decided that they wanted to throw away their Police Department that they have had for over, Oh I don't know.."some SEVENTY YEARS!!! They wanted to get their department and close it up and just have the Sheriff Department come over and take it over because well they have done such a great job as a Law Enforcement agency.

Well, The City Council thought that if they just kept holding them down that the Police Department would just come crawling and take what ever it was that they wanted them to do!!! WRONG!!! NOT THIS TIME!!!! They held out, but There was some people that got some cold feet, and went to other agencies. Not their fault!! They have people that are relying on them such as Son's Daughters, and housewife's, and the like. They went to other agencies.

Rialto lost anywhere from 10 to 25 people while the City Council Literally held the city hostage hoping that they would bend to their whims. Once they entered into Negotiations they should have held out for the 3% @ 50. The City Admin along with the City Council should have told them that they wanted to give them the retirement increase instead of with holding it from them. This makes Rialto such a Weak city when it comes to negotiations and trying to get new recruitment here. It is terrible when you have a city that is on the Cusp of being a premier city, a city that is growing as much as rialto is and they just keep holding them back in the dark ages.

terrible that they do that Not just to the Police Employees' but the City Population that try to sell this city to family members that are getting into law enforcement and they want them working here. Just a shame!!!

Rialto, police union ratify 2-year contract
-- Robert Rogers

RIALTO - City and police union officials ratified a two-year labor contract Monday, stabilizing the rank-and-file as the department embarks on its search for a new chief to implement its rebuilding program.

"The contracts are signed, things are finalized and we're moving forward," said Capt. Tony Farrar.

As part of the contract, the union will drop a handful of lawsuits it filed against the city in response to the City Council's Sept. 13 vote to disband the department. And the city will pay $118,000 in attorney fees racked up by the union.

Officers received an increase in the vacation accrual cap from 500 hours to 600 hours.
