The Ridgecrest Planning Commission Tuesday unanimously approved a site-plan review of Heller Development’s proposed 112-unit multifamily residential complex consisting of two-story fourplexes consisting of 32 three-bedroom units, 67 two-bedroom units, 13 one-bedroom units and a 4,000-square-foot recreation hall.

The project is located on 7.6 acres 800 feet north of the northwest corner of East Ridgecrest and Gateway boulevards. The item was continued from the commission’s Aug. 22 meeting.

Neighboring residents expressed concern about noise from the proposed recreation area.

Heller architect Daniel Signett said the play areas were relocated away from the neighboring properties of the proposed complex. “The clubhouse is in redesign, and the orientation shift so that the pool area and those areas that would typically make more noise are more or less in the center of the project.”

The commission continued Encino-based AMG & Associates’ request to create a 12-lot commercial subdivision on 4.6 acres at the southwest corner of West Ridgecrest Boulevard and South Downs Street.

Commissioners voted 4-1 to approve a request from Lodi-based PAM Co. to create a 51-lot subdivision on 13.06 acres at the southeast corner of West Drummond Avenue and North Inyo Street. Commissioner Jerry Taylor cast the dissenting vote.

The commission unanimously approved resident Dave Sjaastad’s request to create a three-lot estate-density subdivision on 1.2 acres at the northeast corner of West Sydnor Avenue and North Carolyn Street.

BSRanch Perspective:

Driving around Ridgecrest seeing the apartments that there are to choose from, this Heller project will be a sight for sore eyes. The existing apartments need a great deal of work and clean up, Including but not limited to Paint and Landscaping clean up!! I am not perfect by any means, however. It would make more sense to fix the places that you have first then start building new ones.
